What does Windows Vista do between the Boot screen and the logon screen? On my PC, the boot screen appears for a few seconds, then a black screen appears for a long time, then the logon screen appears and windows loads really quick. I tried looking into the event viewer but I couldn't find anything. If I knew what Vista does during that time, I might be able to pinpoint the cause of this...

Check out the NBR Vista Tips and Tweaks Guide sticky at the top of this sub-forum. It's the very first tweak there.

I already disabled TMM, so it's not that. I went through a lot of that thread.

What about start up programs? Could it be something there?

I already looked at start up programs and nothing sticks out, just the normal windows crap. But I thought start up programs only load after you login? The black screen occurs after the boot screen but before the logon screen.

Oops I'm sorry, I didn't catch that

It could be your video driver then. Have you tried updating it or using a different one?

Have you tried doing a registry cleanup?

I'm not sure if my mothers Medion didn't do something similar once....

If it did, I didn't reinstal everything.

Also: Maybe see that you have all updates...

For an overview of exactly what's going on under the hood when _Vista boots, try some of these articles:
    1. http://www.articlesbase.com/operating-systems-articles/windows-vista-boot-process-overview-242748.html
    2. http://homepages.tesco.net/J.deBoynePollard/FGA/windows-nt-6-boot-process.html

These are the first few hits I got from googling on "Microsoft_Vista boot-process".

Also, this MS Technet forum thread suggests reading "pages1244 - 1254 in the Microsoft Vista Resource Kit book."

Perhaps those articles (or others from the google search) might give you a better idea of what to look for if there's something specific you want to try and optimize.
