Windows 8.1 wouldn't let me verify my account

So on my new computer I just installed Windows 8.1 from an upgrade to disc (clean install). Randomly out of the blue (conveniently after all settings were updated and drivers installed and I was ready to install all of my programs) the action center said I needed to verify my account. However this lead me to the account settings screen where there was nothing to do. Some links brought me to my MS account log in page where there was also nothing to do. For some reason the "verify" option under syncing settings for SkyDrive wouldn't let me do anything. I remember having to do this with my Windows 8 tablet when hard resetting it and with my laptop when I upgraded from 7 to 8. And that was only for syncing password information for Windows Credentials and Web Credentials. Upon installing 8.1 to my new computer (both times) this was never an option to verify as it seemed to have done it automatically as it synced all credentials. I'm hoping this verification doesn't occur again as I am updating settings now, but does anyone know what happened or if there was any way to fix it?

I've had that on one device, all I needed was the code sent to my smartphone for verification. Depending on your settings, it could be a code sent to an alternate e-mail or if you have two factor authentication, you'd need the code from that.

I had the code verification during the actual installation which wasn't an issue. The issue here is it was making me verify again, but when I clicked on anything that would let me enter any type of verification prompt, nothing would happen. I was stuck being unverified basically. In the end a fresh reinstall fixed the issue. But it was certainly bizarre.
