I've been having this issue for a few days now. I've reinstalled (freshly) windows twice. It's getting really really annoying, because I can't for the life of me figure out the problem.

Basically, my PC randomly turns itself off. A lot. It could last five hours before shutting off, or it could last 30 seconds. Either way, it isn't reliable. I thought it was a multitude of programs installed and thus I reinstalled windows once. I figured it was a specific program, and after installing that program (battle.net client) it began again. I thought it was tied to that program. Now, I see clearly that it isn't, as this is my second reinstall and that program hasn't come within 10 feet of my computer. I don't know what to do anymore. I can't figure out what the issue is. It says that I initiate shutdown myself, and that the error code is 0x500ff. When I manually restart or shut down, there is a different error code. If ANYONE has any help they can offer, please do. I really need it.

My OS is a fresh (as in three hours ago) install of windows 8 that was then upgraded to windows 8.1 I've been using 8 and 8.1 since I got this machine back in october. It has never done anything like this before. There are no overclocks, no overvolts, no undervolts, nothing. Doesn't matter what I do. I'm even amazed I managed to type all this out without a crash. I'm seriously about to cry here.

I should also clarify. I have googled for the past three days about the issue. NOBODY has reported it in windows 8, and the ones who do are because they manually shut their PCs down and then their restarts break. All the people who reported the problems did so years ago, and were all on windows vista, 7 or server 2008. That's why I'm so frustrated and sound about as desperate as a 14 year old kid who just met a supermodel they like and now want her to marry him.

Google that error code and you get a host of results all pointing to a power supply issue, and the way Windows interprets shut down. See if you can try another power supply with a matching voltage. It just seems weird that you can get through a Windows installation without issue, but once in Windows, it shuts down.

Last night it started shutting down more frequently, too. I think it really may be a power issue. It won't even let me install windows now. But it shuts down on battery as well, and battery removal didn't stop it shutting down in the past. I think I might need to send the entire system to mythlogic now. I'm really depressed. There's nothing else in the house usable excepting my sister's netbook which she needs for class. Which I am on right now.

perhaps some unrelated tests includes ram test, and BIOS check, set the BIOS back to defaults or something, also check if the CPU is overclocked during startup

I defaulted and nothing. It shuts off even after the bios screen now. Can't reinstall windows anymore. Definitely a hardware issue. I'll have to send it back to RMA T-T.

I just can't guess why it shuts off on battery, on plugged in battery AND plugged in no battery.

What is it you don't get? The thing's broken, that's all. If you still have a warranty on it (likely, since you say you got it in October), then have it repaired. My money is on a motherboard replacement.

Could be something as simple as faulty power button.
