Hi , I just realized that I have an odd delay when opening the Windows Explorer. I have an Asus Zenbook UX302LG with i/4500U and an SSD Everything opens immediately (IE, Office whatever...) But only the Windows Explorer somehow has a 2 Seconds delay when I click on it....

I have NO Network drives connected.

I never had this before even with an older PC....

    Anyone any hint ?

    Thx

I would bet you that you have Office 2013 installed then.....

    the problem lies in....

    Windows 8.1 already has OneDrive.....

then when you install Office, the darn thing installs its own version of OneDrive.......then if you check the log, you will notice sync errors and that's what causes the delay.....had this issue before......

so now what I do is.....

when I did try Windows 8.1........the moment I would install Office I would uninstall the 2nd OneDrive that it installs and remove all the registry / startup entries.....then problem is gone

the problem with Office 2013 is, even if you were fortunate enough to have the Professional Edition which is the only edition that allows you to choose what components you want installed, even if you did de-selece OneDrive from the installation, it would still install those OneDrive startup / sync entries......

Microshaft really screwed up on this one.....

Does this seem to relate to your issue by any chance.......

Anyone Noticed Desktop Icons Not Responsive on Win 8.1 Update 1

I don't have the startup entries handy on me.......but this is just one of them that's in the registry.....although to solve the main issue.....download Autoruns.....then run it as administrator, then scroll down a bit and you will see 4 startup entries pertaining to OneDrive that need to be unchecked or deleted

    ==============================================================

If you’ve installed Consumer Preview of Office 2013 you might have came across grayed out SkyDrive Pro option on the right-click menu of selected Folder in Windows 7, if you’re wondering with the questions in your mind like what is SkyDrive Pro?, why it disabled on right-click menu? as SkyDrive desktop client already installed then what is the Purpose of SkyDrive Pro and for whom? here are the answers- this option is intended for business users but tied to Home Premium Preview of Office 365, it is part of both SharePoint service in Office 365 and server. SkyDrive Pro installed allows to sync contents from SkyDrive Pro to your Computer, we’re still unclear and confused about this. Why to bother? for a typical desktop user its unnecessary clutter on context menu and of no use IMO and here is how you can remove it from Windows Explorer Context menu.

Removing SkyDrive Pro entry from Context Menu in Windows

    1. Open registry editor from Run Command by typing regedit
    2. Navigate to “HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFileSystemObjects\shell\SPFS.Context menu”
    3. Right-click on it(left pane) and select “ Delete” option to remove this key and all its sub keys.

Note: The above method successfully removes SkyDrive Pro from context menu, you don’t need to restart your Computer.

Wow thanks a lot for the great Feedback !
You were right I use Office 2013. I completely uninstalled it and also stopped OneDrive completely via the Registry etc....

It got a bit better - but still with the Windows Explorer from the Taskbar there is a 2-3 Seconds delay after clicking it.
As mentioned ONLY for the Windows Explorer!

I then activated again the "normal" Windows 8 included One Drive.
Now still clicking on the Explorer Icon in the Taskbat has the dealy.... but the "funny" Thing is - if I doubleclick the OneDrive Icon in the Systray... the Windows Explorer opens immediately..... odd !

Well I am not sure I really found&removed all Sky/One Drive things
but as this is anyway a...let me call it "not clean" Windows 8.1 Installation ( Asus pre installed Windows 8 upgraded to 8.1 with all Asus Bloadware etc...) I will soon get my 1 TB 840EVO and install Windows 8.1 from the scratch... I will exclude One Drive from teh install and see if there is still this delay/Issue - I really hope not. I mean from the "Power of CPU with SSD this machine should be fast enough to have WE opened smoothly... even in Power safe mode....

But really thanks again for your answer - partially it git better and good to know that there is a Topic with Office 2013 - as I then later will for sure install it again !

Great Forum Great People here !

    As I suspected.

As I said, even if you do deselect OneDrive from Office 2013, the startup entries will magically appear and ruin your OS. I need to show you how to properly remove those entries man.....

Are you sure it isn't something else, Windows Explorer loads instantly on my machine that has Windows 8.1 AND Office 2013, all installed in the normal fashion and not tweaked what so ever. The same goes for my "slow" atom tablet, it's instantaneous and it also has default OneDrive settings for both Office and Windows 8.1.

    try this

reboot......as soon as you see the Windows desktop, open Computer, or any windows that engages explorer.exe

then as soo nas you double Click Computer and it's open, try clicking your desktop icons see if they're clickable or frozen until you wait for about 30 secs or so......

Boot, password, loaded the libraries and then opened adobe reader XI as fast as humanely possible, no delay noticeable. As soon as I was done double clicking, reader was launching without issues.

yes this issue seems to affect a few as it seems. Because when I reported in that thread I linked above in the 2nd post......many people said they did have the issue and others said they didn't.... very strange..

I was even asking on MDL forums how did Microshaft release this 8.1 Update 1 ISO as RTM when it has such a bug and that's when we started the thread about it.....

PS: Another reason I use Windows 7, don't want to deal with no Windows 8 quirks

With a fresh WIN8.1 Installation and new SSD the issue is gone !
Also with OneDrive and Office 2013 Professional completely installed.
Only in Power save mode there is a really small delay now opening Explorer.

By the way On Dirve is very slow in download (355kb/s only) - I found in Google several complaints about this ... but no fix or real Explanation Anyone here knows this issue ?
