I want to upgrade the HP Vista desktop to windows 8 and I read that the applications will not carry over in the upgrade. I need to know if the recovery partition stays intact in the upgrade process so that the preinstalled application software can be reinstalled? Anyone who has done this I would appreciate your feedback.

If you browse your recovery partition there may be folders containing installation files (.msi / .exe) to preinstalled software. Typically these software do no good and bloat your system. The best thing I could reccomend is backup any data (Pictures/music/docs). Cleanly install Windows 8, transfer data back on. Install all drivers from manafacturers website / CD you got with the PC.
