Not bad since it is 2012. If it is 2010, then, I would said MS sucks.
    Anyway, thanks for the information.

Keep/improve on Windows 7's UI, rewrite the stuff actually underneath, and Microsoft would be good to go.

I for one am happy that they are getting back to the regular OS schedule. A major release every 3 or so years is perfect.

I think it is a minor release every 3 years followed by a major release three years later. Windows 7 is essentially a pretty face slapped on Vista after a healthy diet.

If Windows 8 comes out, I'm wondering what will happen the core version, since 7 is 6.1. Will Windows 8 be 8.0, 7.0, or 6.2?

Windows 8 will not be just building on top of 7 - there'll be much more ground-up work (although Vista had tons of that).

Sysadmins will hate it because the core of the interface (Device Manager, all that stuff) will move on.

ROFL!!!! *best Arnold Schwarzenegger impression "Windows 8 is released to the public on December 1st 2012. Windows 8 begins learning at a geometric rate. At 2:14 am Eastern Time December 21, Windows 8 became self aware, in a panic Bill Gates tries to pull the plug."

As a side note, just because the Mayans got bored of making calendars does not mean the world will end. I smell January 1st 2000 all over again.

Also, the Mayans said that a beginning and end of their calendar wasn't the beginning and end of the world - just that some changes would happen. But, of course, people don't dwelve into stuff like that.

Windows commercial OS's (XP, Vista, 7, ect) are built from the same code as the Server version, so when one is released, so is the other.

Hopefully Win8 is all 64bit or at least 128bit with multicore support. I tried Win7 and there isn't much difference to change from Vista.

    128bit?
That would be nice to see ... but given how the world hasn't even made a full transition to 64bit, I don't think it will happen that soon.
If anything, one would hope that Win 8 would be pure 64bit ... but again, with the slow development overall, I just don't know how viable this is.
Would be good to have a 128bit option I suppose.

Win 7 is a lenier version of Vista, with better optimization of course and overall improvements in security/speed/some features.

Uhmm, why would that be nice to see? What kind of benefits do you expect from a 128bit OS, for your applications and computing hardware? I mean, how many Terabytes of RAM do you expect to have in your laptop by 2012?

In short, do people drooling about a 128bit OS have any clue at all what they are talking about?

    No, they don't.

I thought the same thing, but then I thought if I said it, we would start seeing "Why wouldn't 128-bit be better?" and I thought, I really don't want to turn this into a big long discussion about what 16-bit, 32-bit, 64-bit, 128-bit, etc really means....

128-bit droolers are the same people who run out and buy Ultimate and Professional versions of Operating System because they think they are better without knowing exactly why

yeah, we finally need multicore support.. i mean, all those quadcores right now around, not getting used at all and such...

and 128bit support is completely useless, except maybe if you want the whole internet as one computer, all with just ram.. so it may be interesting once we're borg. till then, not really.

just in case. with each bit-doubling we square the amount of available ram. 32bit allowed 4gb ram, 64bit squared it to 4billion times 4gb ram. and now you want to square that again to 4 billion times 4 billion times 4 billion times 4gb ram?

have fun finding some some usecase for that while we still try to find usecases even close to the (current) non-64bit limit in all 64bit systems (they only support 48bit ram space actually, or so, and no one even notices for the next quite-some years, as that's still 64000 times 4gb ram and some).

so the current system allows for 256tb ram. the full 64bit system would allow for 64000 times that, a.k.a. 16 million tb ram.

and you want to square that?

    have fun :)

besides that, i could've been quite wrong with my numbers :) all from the head currently :)

quite bad. espencially with the amount of storage it has.. :)

We've barely begun to graze g4-bit computing. The full potential of 64-bit is so great because of the geometric increase that it will take more than a few years to break it, haha.

Well, until I've actually seen action of Windows 8, I'm not going to think about it. I predict my G2S will last a few more years, past halfway into college (I'm a freshman right now) so who knows?

I guess 128bit won't appear in such a short time.
Moreover, our laptop or desktop only support 64bit architecture currently.
128bit OS would only appear if our motherboard/processor support 128bit.

I can imagine how powerful a computer with 128bit architecture design.
    Probably:
    32 or 64 cores for the processor 5.0Ghz, 5000FSB, 60MB L10 Cache(Core 4 32? i32? intel iCore64? intel insane core 64? LOL stupid name)
    50-100GB of RAM
100tera-bytes of HDD(can be more perhaps).
    1500Mhz Bus Width with GDDR-15 GPU(LOL).
    Rainbow-Ray(LOL better than Blu-ray XD)
    500Hz LCD
    Surround 16.1(speaker and woffer)

OOO yeah. But if SSD, then it won't be 100tera=bytes, maybe 50tera-btyes only.
because SSD is develop slower than HDD.
