I'm installing Windows 8 for the first time on my Clevo P150EM. I noticed that windows 8 auto installed my NVidia graphics and Intel graphics as well as every device seems to have drivers installed albeit old ones. I usually never have a problem with installing drivers on a clean install but I'm a little worried this time. I was getting slow internet wireless speeds and I'm not sure if windows experience index (6.9) for graphics was showing a properly installed driver or not for my card. I noticed if I choose install from the driver itself it will show up in the uninstall section on the control panel. This is how I've always done it for a clean windows 7 install. I can also go to the device manager to either uninstall the built in driver or have the OS pointed in the direction of the new driver (which doesn't let it show up in the uninstall section of the control panel).

What is the best way to do this?

I think I figured it out. I reinstalled win8 and I always choose to setup windows update later but this time I deselected the automatic driver install switch and now nothing installed. even my USB 3 flashdrive worked better. it only went at 25MBps and now offloaded the drivers at 125MBps. I assume the auto driver download, even though windows update was off was the conflict.

you did the right thing. selecting automatically get device drivers is simply asking for trouble and low performance because the basic drivers are only downloaded by the Windows update and we all know that if you simply install the real drivers from the manufacturer after that, you may run into problems due to the remnants of the drivers that Windows update installed.
