    Sorry if previously posted.

    http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/pricing.asp

EDIT: Perhaps I shouldn't say "official" since this isn't the actual MS announcement. But I'm sure Thurott got it from the source and this is what it's going to be.

Wow! Thanks for the info and the links!

Hee, hee, just ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Beta, and, of course, passed with flying colors (didn't really doubt it, but I'm still paranoid that way :D), with one exception:
Good thing that trial period runs out soon - that'll incentivize me to get off my fat, lazy butt, weed out the Norton junk, and put some real A/V on here! :D

Do the upgrade come with a product key though?

It would come with an Upgrade product key which cannot be used to activate a clean install, only an in-place upgrade install.

What if I decide to upgrade from 32-bit Vista to 64-bit Win 7? So there should be an option for clean install.

you can so do a clean install, you just have to have vista previously installed on the comp, ie launch setup while in vista and it will reboot after youve put in the key(and verified vista) and chosen the clean install method and then go on as normal

you can also upgrade(keep programs and settings) which i highly do not recomend, i did this with my first vista install, and it craped out in 6 months...
note: only clean install option available for xp users...

really the only differenc between the two (upgrade and full) is that upgrade needs a currently installed version of either xp or vista installed for the key to work.

hope ive helped clear this up

if i was to pre order from somewhere in the US would the US version be exactly the same as the Aussie version? would i get the same suport from MS?

and where is a good place to buy from the US?

would anyone recomend/not recomend doing this? shipping would cost a little but it would still be heaps cheaper (half price minuss the extra 30-40% that everyone adds on for OZ pricing)

    cheers

    is it possible to
    1. install vista business (without authorisation yet)
    2. put in windows 7 installation cd
    3. launch windows 7 setup while in vista

and carry on with clean install?

Or must we have a copy of authorised vista before able to clean install windows 7?

I wouldn't be sure, but IIRC, in the Vista upgrade, you can just decide to not use a cd-key during the installation and then enter the key at the activation screen.

well not sure whether you got my question jcms... i'm asking whether we need an activated copy of vista before we can install windows 7 upgrade or can we use a freshly-installed-but-not-yet-activated-vista to clean install windows 7 using the w7 upgrade.

    hee...

Unless MS has completely lost their minds, I would expect you'd need a legal, activated copy.

but i read that during the XP to Vista upgrade era, they don't need to activate their XP and still can upgrade to Vista - am i right or wrong?
