    Hey guys,

Is the Windows Professional 64-bit I just downloaded from my institution's MSDN website the full version or the upgrade version?

I had performed clean installs with my OEM Vista Home Premium license key which I only used to activate upon the completion of Vista's installation.

Nothing about my scenario is covered her: http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/.

To install Windows 7 using the ISO image, do I enter the serial key right away if asked or wait till the OS' fully installed?

    Thanks in advance.

I downloaded mine in MSDNAA. It's the retail, it asks you for the key in the beginning, but you don't need to put it in.

If you put it in, it says "You need to activate within 3 days" if not, it's 30 days.

You meant to say "if you DO NOT put it,..."? Doesn't entering the key activate the OS?

No. Entering the product key and activating are 2 separate activities.

Entering the product key just gives Windows some data to store in the registry.

Activating involves phoning home to Microsoft and sending their servers your product key.

    What are you talking about?
The key on MSDN is for activating Windows 7. It's the product key!
Calling Microsoft only happens if the key doesn't activate the windows.

    HAHAHAHAHAH

I was wondering why all the confusion in the thread.

But ya. Validation and activation are discrete processes.

You got me too!! I learned something new today. So yeah, I activated Win 7 successfully and it really does seem snappier than Vista...Maybe it's b/c I don't have much installed yet. :)

    Thanks a lot everyone.
