    Hi Guys,

I just reinstalled Windows 7 Pro X64 on my Macbook Pro 13. With only MS Security Essential and Avast Free Anti-Virus running I'm using 1.2GB. Fresh install, no viruses, malware, spyware, or anything.

I also have a second question: Does Windows 7 Home Premium X64 use less memory that Windows 7 Pro X64?

1.2 GB is not considered a large amount of RAM usage. Why do you run two Antimalware products at the same time? Do you have both of their real time protection turned ON?

Use the task manager and resource monitor to know about the real RAM usage by each process.

Well, total I think both the Anti-Virus programs are using no more than 150MB's. Windows 7 X32 uses only like 600MB's.

You should not run two AV's simultaneously.

Open the resource monitor (right click the taskbar > Task manager > Performance tab > Resource monitor) to identify the exact RAM usage.

I run 2 because I see MSSE as overclocked Windows Defender, and I like Avast :)

So what is the issue if it uses lots of memory?
You mean you rather it use less of it than make full use of the available memory to cache data and improve performance?
Seriously Windows is not like OS X or Linux, different design different goals it is like comparing Apples to Orange.
Again Home Premium is another SKU of the Professional Version, no difference just the ability to Enterprise workgroup the system etc.

After un-installing Avast my usage is at 1.08GB, more reasonable.

Well, MSE isn't "overclocked Windows Defender," and you can't treat it as such. You have to stick to one, and only one, AV program.
