    Hello everyone,

Recently I noticed that the log-on screen in Windows 7 has a Windows Classic theme on it for some reason. It's not a huge problem, but it is a little annoying. The ease of access center is like a window that is set to Windows Classic in XP, and the Shut Down options menu on the right bottom corner looks like the sort of buttons you would find in the XP Windows Classic Theme. Anyone know how I change it back to what it was at originally, like the Windows 7 non Aero theme?

I would post a screenshot, but Print Screen doesn't work when I am outside of an account.

    Thank you.

    Like a Win7 basic theme?

That's what it was originally, I want it back to that.

Go to the display personalization settings, and in the list of themes in the window that appears initially, go all the way to the bottom of the list and select Windows 7 Basic Theme. Try that and see if that's what you're looking for. :)

That works for changing the theme within my account, but the logon screen is still stuck on the Windows Classic theme.

Try bringing up a run box and going to gpedit.msc and navigate to: Local Computer Policy --> Computer Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> System --> Logon

Set "Hide entry points for Fast User Switching" to "Not configured" for enabling Fast User Switching.

This *should* bring back the welcome screen. If it's already set like that, try disabling it, logging out, logging back in, resetting it to "not configured" then logging back out, and see if that works...

This is an interesting problem you have here!

    Nope, still the same...

The welcome screen is fine, it's just that the menus and Ease of Access center have Windows Classic as the theme.

Oh, forgive me, I see what you're saying now... ok.. try this..

First, go to the personalization panel, and enable an aero theme. Now disable the transparency. Now right click on My Computer, and click the Advanced System Settings, then advanced tab, then click the performance button, and deselect what ever effects you don't want... Let me know if that's right... Sometimes I have a hard time understanding what people are looking for.

    Yes.

I don't want it on Windows Classic, I would like the Windows 7 Basic theme back for the logon screen. Anyway, anything I change within my account doesn't affect a thing on the logon screen or outside an account.

well, all settings for the logon screen are defined by the "default user", while yours are your current users settings, obviously.

i fiddled with such stuff in xp, to theme the logon screen to fit the corporate requirements. what i did was exporting all theming settings from the registry out of HKEY_CURRENT_USER into a textfile, search/replaced HKEY_CURRENT_USER to HKEY_USERS\.Default, and reimported that.

that way, the settings to transported to the default user, which means works for the logon, and for any new user you create.

now messing with the registry can be a big hazzle, esp. finding what you really want to export. i know there is a tool to switch the logon screen saver automatically, but i don't know of a more simple way to do this for aero and ui settings.

maybe someone knows a way? similar to how you can change the system language and then say "apply this to the system, too", and then it does it. no clue..

Bumping. If anyone has a solution or anything else to contribute, that would be great.

Interesting, davepermen, I thought there would be a way to do it through the registry editor, but unfortunately I am lost when it comes to that.

Try pressing left ALT+ left shift and print screen. This will stick it into high contrast mode. Press the combination again a few times and it should go back to normal.

Thanks, I tried that though, and it's still the same. I think that's what made it like that in the first place, since I was messing around with the Ease of Access center, and after I selected and unselected High Contrast, it was stuck like Windows Classic...
