    Hi all,

I just got a Samsung R480 laptop, about a week and half ago, and I love it.

But just like 1 1/2 hours ago, when I turned it on, it was like stay on the Welcome screen for quite sometimes, probably 2-3 mins, maybe more. Then it just showed blank screen with the mouse pointer. So I turned it off and booted it up, the same problem. It was fine when I ran it last night.

Anyway, I know this isn't a hardware problem, because I ran the recovery partition afterward, and it is ok. (I am using it right now.)

Does anybody know what cause this problem? Probably a registry corruption?

Is this a common problem for Windows 7? (first time using it)

    Thx.

First, unplug all unnecessary hard devices from the computer to check the result.
Also, try Last Known Good configuration and see if the issue can be resolved. If the issue persists, you can perform a Startup Repair.Besides, you can try Other options to repair windows 7

    you could also try this:
First, please boot in Safe Mode.
    1. Click Start, type MSCONFIG in the Search Bar and Press Enter to start the System Configuration Utility.
    2. Click the Services tab, check the Hide All Microsoft Services box and click Disable All (if it is not gray).
    3. Click the Startup tab, click Disable All and click OK.
    4. Restart the computer and test the issue.

    hope this helps

Ok, I am trying to say this nicely to you.

All I wanted to know, is this problem common for Windows 7? Is it like registry problem or what? And if yes, what measures that I need to take to prevent from happening this again?

yes i already understood that..hence the edit..nevermind anyways...
there have obviously been other reports of this yes but it can be a different problem for each person but i wouldn't say its common.. it can be a registry problem..yes..it can be hardware (hdd for example)(but as you mentioned it wasn't for you)..third party software/driver..
    u might try Googling ??

Thank you and thank you for the suggestion. And I already tried google, there are various situations about Welcome stuck/hangs. Unfortunately, I haven't find anything that match with my situation.

I will see if other users has this similar situation.

I do hope this was just a registry corruption. I had experiences this registry corruption on XP also.

Now, my laptop is running fine.

What you experienced is not a common problem for Windows 7 based on my running windows 7 for a year now and from reading many windows 7 threads.
Windows 7 is a very good OS and is quite tolerant to problems.

As to what caused the problem it is difficult to tell now that you have reinstalled Windows from the recovery partition. It could have been caused by some software you installed that didn't play nice with your system and created an issue with the registry. Also, if you have any devices plugged into the USB ports they can cause such issues and should be removed if you have the problem again while you attempt to debug the problem.

A HD issuse (you might want to run a chkdsk to make sure you don't have any bad sectors on your HD).

Memory can always be an issue (you may want to remove and reseat the memory to insure good contact) and also run a program such as memtest to make sure you don't have any marginal memory issues.

I don't believe it was a driver issue as you didn't mention any blue screen issues.

    deeastman, thanks for your response.

Blue screen: Nope, no blue screen during the time.

Memory: Hm, I will check it, just in case.

HD: I already ran the chkdsk, no problems. And also I ran SMART, everything is normal

USB: There were no USB devices plugged during that time.

Software: It's possible, but I doubt it, the last thing I installed was NFS Underground 2 demo.

    I will run the memtest.

I ran the memtest for an hour, no error. :)
