Has anybody had the load/unload cycle clicking issue on Windows 7? Most of the reports I've seen seem to point to Vista.

I know there is a flaw in some earlier SATA chipsets that at, especially the worst, times the drive will spindown and park most things frozen until it decides to spin back up. Windows 7 WEI tests for the flaw and i noticed the problem on vista only with western digital drives and it was worse with and without some updates.

Wether that has anything todo with your problem im not sure but it did exist on santa rosa platform times, all myne occured on amd platform though.

I have a Dell XPS M1530 with a Western Digital drive. It does it under Vista, so that's why I was asking. If it's going to do it under Seven, I'm replacing the drive with something else.

I never had the issue with the stock seagate and the WD's that did it dont do it on my ASUS which use a newer chipset.

As far as i know if anything its possibly worse on 7 I tested the beta on the previous laptop and got a low hdd score, all were same as vista except hdd lol. Last i checked Microsoft said they are aware of the issue and since its a flaw in sata they were not doing anything about it..... im pretty sure they could write a work around for it too lol.
