Can I install both windows vista (business, or premium) 64bit and 32bit on a notebook? How much space would this take up on my HDD?

university's network (printer, programs) only work with 32bit, I want my programs running on 64...

xotic pc (and others) for example, ships both cd's... which is appealing depending on how easily i could function with both ( if it were possible to partition them both on the C drive).

I may just be stuck with 32bit vista until windows 7, I guess... :)

But do they ship two serials ? I don't think you'll be able to use the same OEM serial to activate two copies of windows, on the same system.
Or, you can buy an OEM copy of XP and install that.

You'll need about 40-50GB for each Vista partition, and you can install the two OSs on a single HDD, but on different partitions.

40-50GB for each partition? o.k, forget about it :D

    32bit vista it is...

im guessing they only ship one OEM serial number, so you are correct in that they probably can't be run together.

Have you checked with the IT department to see if they have 64-bit drivers for the printer(s) that you could d/l and install on your system so that you can run a 64-bit OS and still use the printers?

It'll be around 40-50GB to run Vista smoothly. I think MS does say something about 15GB free space and all.

There is really no point going 64-bit, if you're under 4GB RAM.

    How about 64-bit CPU support?

Yonah s and Dothan s etc, these are the ones that are not 64-bit compliant.
If its a Merom CPU, it'll be 64-bit compliant.

And I guess ARom might have a 64-bit compliant CPU, thats why he/she was considering a 64-bit OS.

Well .yes that is what i had wanted to ask................correct me if am wrong.but a 64 bit copy of vista wud only work on a 64 bit processor rhight???????......essentially.......its your chip set that matters.......if its a 32 then a 64 bit windows won't work

Its the CPU that matters. If the CPU supports the EM64T feature, then it'll run a 64-bit OS.

If the CPU does not support EM64T, i.e. is based on an older core than the Merom, i.e. Core Duo/Solo, Pentium M, etc. then it'll give an error msg when windows is booting.

Windows Vista 64-bit might be able to use 4GB of RAM, but think about having a 64-bit processor and using 64-bit applications and allowing Vista to process more information through the processor, if there are correct drivers for your system, I'd recommend it.

Wellllllllll.hm ok...so if its just the CPU that matters...........then.....all the T series processors.......(9200 to 9800).......will support a 64 BIT copy of vista Right?????????????????

I have vista 32 and 64 dual booted on my system for the fact my camera for capturing video does not get recognized in 64 bit. I have installed 32bit on a 13GB partition and it works perfectly. There should be no reason to go over this amount.
