You can winamp to sync without buying Pro if I remember correctly. I was able to do so with my Zen

Yeah you don't need Pro to sync.

For ripping, there are plenty of nice free programs around. I use CDex and I like it... there's another popular one called EAC. I'm sure there are others.

As for burning... who wants to bother with CDs anyway? I don't even know what's good for burning.

Nero is an all around good piece of software for burning anything in my experience. I burn CD's to use with my car cd player with it and it works perfectly.

Can drag & drop mp3, cda, ect... and it will convert them for you automatically to play properly in a normal cd player.

Buying Winamp Pro is more like a Donation IMO.

I bought pro because it does have a fruehauf (sp?) encoder and a license for CDDB instead of FREEDB. I still use CDEx mostly for ripping but it is handy to have another option.

I like it quite a bit because ripping and encoding from one format to the other is so easy. Worth the money IMO.

Thanks for all of the replies. I may be missing something, but when I want to sync it want to do the entire library. I like marking them with "stars" and would like to sync the 5* only, any thoughts?

The WinAmp Library system allows some pretty powerful sorting so that should be possible. Just sort the library by rating, mark the 5 star tunes and drag the selection to the iPod device. Or create a playlist out of what you want to send to the iPod, select all, right click and 'send to' the iPod.
