I purchased a Windows 7 Professional License for $30 thru Microsoft's College discount program that they had going on last year. I have always had no problem with activation and "windows genuine advantage".
After being gone for 2 days, I started my computer up today to find my screen blacked out saying that my software might be counterfeit. MS Security Essentials also reported that it will deactivate after 30 days. All of a sudden, my desktop wallpaper came back. I went on IE and did a validation check and it validated just fine. I went into MSE and did the validation check through it and it also validated it and now everything seems fine.
Ive never had this happen to me before, and I have reformatted and reinstalled several times. Activation was always successful and WGA always reported as genuine.
Any similar stories or input would be appreciated. Thank You.
Edit: I should note that I NEVER sold my activation key or gave it to anyone else, in case someone asks.

Did you install the WGA update which was available through Windows Update? It did this to several genuine Windows 7 installations.
I am also using the same Windows 7 Pro got through the student deal and haven't had any problems yet (installed the WGA update too).
Edit: Didn't see that the validation check fixed the issue. -
Like you said, it validated just fine, so you don't really have a problem.

I hope I don't have this problem again. It was just weird how it de-validated like that and I was wondering if anybody had similar problems lately with their Win7 keys. Im gonna do a much needed reformat soon, so I hope it activates just fine.

After you do a fresh install use ABR to reload your key. -
ABR doesn't do anything, since he has Retail/regular OEM license. ABR works only with Royalty OEM installations, when OS is preinstalled at the factory.
