    EDIT: Fixed my Problem, getting on for 2 days and looking good, I just hope when i do my next clean install my fix works again.

    I have been having this problem since Win10 was released.

    My notebook does not wake from sleep, the power light should flash but it stays on and does not wake up, Also it does not shutdown completely power light stays on, battery drains to empty if the mains is not connected.

    I have to hold the power button down for 5 seconds to force a power off.

    I have a fix for me, turn off fast startup in power setting, also install the latest "Intel Management Engine Driver" this works for a few hours, but i am certain windows update it overwriting my drivers without my permission and causing my problem to start again.

    I have use O&O shutup to disable all updates, but this is not ideal.

    The only time I ran into shutdown issues was after uninstalling my AV software in preparation for migrating my installation to another hard drive. After running a cleanup tool, everything went back to normal.

    For the driver update, make sure you've disabled automatic driver updates through the system control panel and not O&O.

    Hi, I forgot to mention that i disable fastboot that is how got shutdown to work when i first upgraded to Wi10, it works for a while but then the sleep and shutdown problem begin again, and fastboot is still disabled.

    Stopping updates seems to fix the problem, but as i said this is not something i really want to do, as it blocks security updates as well.

    BIOS = fast boot
    Windows = fast start up

    I made sure that both were disabled. Fast boot actually kept causing my screen to flash on and off (but could be due to the IMEI firmware i flashed) and turning it off means it only flashes once rather than 3 times.

    I dont have fast boot in the bios, but i have fast startup in windows and it was part of my problems and has been disabled, another of my problems is windows 10 is upgrading one of my drivers that might be an modded HP version to do with sleep, I have disabled updates and i have had no problems since i started this thread, but disabling updates is not a good thing to do in the long run, I might have to re-enable them and see what updates are done, but i suspect there will be quite a few by now, so it may be hard to identified the one causing my problem.

    Update since installing an mSATA i now have an fast boot in the bios, I have tried turning fast boot off in bios and in power in windows but the shutdown problem is still happening.

    I have spent months searching the net, and tried many fixes without finding an solution.

    My current fix from today is to remove the Intel management engine driver v11 and replace it with v9.5 but you have to turn off updates to stop it being update back to v11, the logic behind this is from 10,11 Intel played about with fast shutdown and fast boot and this is what is causing my problem., also turn off fast boot in the bios if you have it.

    If this fix will work in the long term remains to be seen, most fixes do not even last the day.

    Looking good so far, but still far too early to pop the champagne, event viewer is showing this error

    "Session "ReadyBoot" stopped due to the following error: 0xC0000188"

    Is readyboot part of the fast boot?

    7days and no problems, problem fixed, Intel management engine is causing my problem, I installed v9.5 and sleep and shutdown is spot on now.

    I read that Intel management engine v10+ has a feature to boosting windows startup and shutdown speed, and some systems like mine dont seem to work right with the new version, hopefully they will fix it or i will be on v9.5 till Windows 11 comes out.
