Call the store you bought the computer from and ask them what to do.

perhaps i should elaborate. this is what asus says to include in the proof of purchase:

The proof of purchase must include the following information:
o A clear description of the product.
o The product's date of purchase.
o An invoice or receipt number.
    o The product's price.
o The reseller's contact information, and if possible, the reseller's company seal or logo.
o The proof of purchase should also include the product's serial number, if the reseller normally lists serial numbers on their invoices.

Microsoft must need this proof of purchase so they can qualify you for the free upgrade. Then they can send Asus your disc, which will be mailed to you. I think that's how it's working. That sure is a lot of info they need.

if that is true, why do they need the reseller's contact info? this may sound stupid but what do they mean by "reseller"?

The reseller is where you purchased the laptop from, not the manufacturer. Im not sure why they need that, maybe it's more proof of purchase stuff. Or maybe it's the reseller who is going to mail you the upgrade disc, not Asus themselves.

im still a little confused as this info was at the end of the email i got from Asus. when looking at my receipt i dont see a receipt number but there is a Val number, what ever that is. and what would they mean by a clear description of the product? i should also point out that i got this laptop as a replacement for my old HP so it wasnt exactly bought, more or less bought thru store credit.

That should all be on the receipt. It should have the name of the store, the location of the branch, probably even the name of the cashier on duty, the product's name, the price, the bar code for the receipt, date, etc. etc. No, that was not in any particular order, haha. My experience has been that you send in the bar code from the box for rebates and whatever that's to the manufacturer. However, I am unsure if Microsoft will want it. You might as well, just for safety, unless you need it otherwise.

Nice choice, btw. Hope Asus has/will fix the bios issue. Haven't really been reading that thread, so I don't know. xD

If you received an email, it should have instructions. If you have questions, you need to contact Microsoft or your laptop vendor.

Contact your laptop provider or Microsoft and ask these questions!
