He means specifically through the upgrade feature, not if he can get rid of vista and use Windows 7.

Yes I know, I have put the disk in a machine myself and seen the upgrade feature, hence the reason I said YES.

How will the whole process of upgrade be? Will i have to install vista and then upgrade to windows 7 each time i decide to format my machine?

The answer would be yes. In fact Microsoft had originally sold Vista Upgrades and someone figured out how to install it without installing XP first and then posted the step by step procedure on the net.. :D

So MS decided to fix that with subsequent upgrade releases. W7 will no doubt require either Windows XP or Vista to be installed on the hard drive first.

For what it's worth, I ran an Upgrade from Vista (32) to 7 RC (32) and the process was painless and everything worked great, all user settings preserved etc...but it did take two hours (as opposed to 25mins for a clean 7 install). So yeah, if you frequently wipe the machine clean and reinstall windows you might want to avoid the Upgrade version, unless another loophole is discovered with the 7 Upgrade. :)

I used the upgrade feature to upgrade from Vista x64 to RC1 x64 and it went perfectly, feels just as fast as a clean install and I get to keep all of my data! *Luke* my temperatures appear to be exactly as they were in Vista, no change at least for me anyway.

Compared to Vista or OSX? I think it's about the same temps as Vista. OSX still runs cooler and the fans hardly ever come on. Having said that, it wasn't terrible under 7, just noticeable. Naturally this observation will be different with other hardware.
