..or do I need to buy that seperately?

Laptop specs are in my sig, currently running Vista 32.

I have an old copy of Windows 2000 and am thinking it's time to upgrade! Not sure I can justify the expense though, I have a seperate machine for work (XP Professional, Office 2003 pre-installed), so my use of Word, PowerPoint and Excel on this laptop would be casual at best. That said, I still think Office is a standard program to have, and would be nice to have the latest and greatest...

If they included Office 2007 to Windows 7, then, many people(vista or lower OS) will complaints. In the end, it may turn out either discard Office 2007 on Windows 7 or allow all Windows OS users to download Office 2007 for free.

Logically, this is impossible. Office 2007 and Windows is separate stuffs.
So, we need to buy both and MS would earn more money.

?? Office is a standard program for a whole lotta people to have. In point of fact, if you do much sending or receiving of documents, it can be a necessity, not just a standard. It just doesn't come bundled in with the Windows operating system.

According to the Microsoft website, if you have Office 2000, you should be able to purchase the upgrade version of Office 2007 rather than the full version (although there may be wrinkles if you have a Home and Student version - the licensing for those versions tends to be more limited in terms of upgrades (but wider in that you can usually install one purchased copy on three machines)).

well, the EU says media player is no standard app to have, and internet explorer is no standard to have. so no, i don't think microsoft ever plans to combine windows and office by default :)

but yes, i love the home & student version. great deal for me (but i have some need for outlook now for active sync.. but not for mails :))

Why not just wait till next year for Office 2010, for the latest and greatest?

Office 2010 is already in techpreview/beta stage. I tried it a couple month ago, but switched back to using office 2007.

    Good point.

I still don't understand how an OS shouldn't come with a media player and Browser.......

Naturally, it brings up the thought if Microsoft bundled Office, the EU will just torpedo that idea.

Yes, look for a special EU version of Office 2010 that presents you with a ballot box, demanding that you choose between Office 2010, OpenOffice, and StarOffice when you try and install it.
