I usually (and have been for some time now) put my laptop in Sleep Mode so that I don't have to hear my laptop running and I can close the screen when I'm done, and immediately get back to it when I need to. But since yesterday, every time I put my laptop in Sleep Mode and try to wake it up, my laptop beeps multiple times madly and loudly and then stops. The screen remains blank/black and and the indicator that lets me know the status/mode of my laptop (i.e: sleep = orange, blue = on) stays in Sleep.

Anyone know if this is a hardware or software issue and how to fix it?? I have a Compaq Presario CQ50-108NR which runs Windows Vista btw.

Tried using a restore point back to before this started? Any new software installed?

I don't have an early enough restore point to go to before the problem happened. The only thing new that I can think is the usual windows update.

If you are sure that your power plan(s) are set up properly and that you haven't mucked around with the individual device power settings via Device Manager, problems coming out of hibernate can often be traced back to how a deivce driver responds to hibernate/sleep commands and how it wakes up.

are you sure that all of your system drivers, starting with chipset and running through the list, are up to date?

Not that this is definitely your problem, but device drivers are pretty easy to eliminate as a source of hibernation/sleep and other system problems.

I haven't done much to my power plan except shorten the time to turn off the display, and that was after this problem occurred.

How do I make sure that all of my system's drivers (and specifically which ones) are up to date?

Go into your device manager, go to each of the devices and check for driver updates.
