I'd say about 1 in every 10 pages I try to load times out and then is succesful on the "try again." First of all, can the time out time be longer? Second, why is it havng the problem in the first place? Even within notebookreview, sometimes it just won't go through on the first try. I have a strong connection to my protected 802.11g LinkSys that my PowerBook doesn't have this porblem with so it's not that. Should I not be using Norton?

The problem isn't just with your machine/settings/or wireless connection, Cygnus. I'm having the same problem with a wireless notebook, and machines which are hooked directly to cable internet. Perhaps a glitch within FF?

All seems to be well when I switch to Opera, FWIW.

I'll move this over to "Software".

I have a WEP-protected Linksys WLAN and it works perfectly.

I have had this problem many, many times. Rebooting usually solved the problem. But one time it persisted, and I re-installed Firefox and never had the problem ever since.

It seems to be a common problem with FF1.5. I think I saw somewhere that FF 1.5 has a shorter time out rate than the previous versions.

If you don't find the solution, look for these two lines in about:config (just type it into the location bar):

and change the 300 into 600 or more.

    Regards, VidKo

There was actually an in-depth article about how Firefox (the new version) is having some serious glitches...I found the links on this message board so I'll try to find 'em and post them here.

I love FF and it used to be my browser of choice but recently I noticed lots of bugs, nothing major but annoying to say the least. I still have FF but have switched to Opera due to it incresed stability, speed, smaller size (I keep copies on my USB devices) and it's similarities to FF (tabbed browsing, customizeable search bar, skinnable interface). I'll try Firefox again in a few months but for now I'm more than happy with Opera -except for it's gay name...
