Hey guys, don't know where to post this, so mods pls move if I'm in the wrong place. I got 2 laptops. One is Gateway 6860 which I bought used here on NBR and it has Vista Home sticker on the back, but I always run XP on it, don't have Vista install disk. Second is bought new HP dv3t which runs Vista Home and also has a sticker on the back. Now what should I buy to get Win7 on both of them. I tried readin the upgrade thread but I just get confused. I'm just lost on what the word "upgrading" means and how do u actually do it.
I don't won't to spend money on something that might actually not work.

If you have XP, you can buy the upgrade disc.

Go to the very bottom, and you'll see this:

I haven't checked the HP website, but usually if you buy a laptop now with Vista, you get a free upgrade to Windows 7. Did you get that option?

UNLESS you have Vista Home basic, if you decided to go with Vista Home Basic, instead of Home Premium, then you are NOT eligible for the Windows 7 free upgrade with your system. This is for all OEMs.

Sounds good to me. And you got another Vista Home Premium Upgrade for another system.
