I have Nero on my desktop and have been thinking of installing it on my FZ but I dont need it yet. I deleted the DVD making software Sony provided. I see there is Windows DVD maker already built into the OS. How well does this work?

nero 7 has a freeware / OEM version. which you can upgrade to the premium version. the only thing you can really do with this version is info and dvd/cd copies. At least that is what came with my ASUS G1S. It works well, but I need to buy the full version since many people are saying it's worth it.

My 6400 has a dvdrw, but I have never written to a DVD. I use Roxio 7 (OEM) SO I am sure that it has DVD ability.

I just downloaded something called Virtual Clone Drive yesterday, which I used to burn a 3.05GB image file for Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2. It was really fast. It shows up in Computer (Explorer) as a virtual drive, and to burn an image file you just right click on the Virtual Clone Drive, click mount, select file, and insert a blank DVD when asked. Within seconds everything appears, but it is not actually burned on the DVD.

I don't use software, I just used a sharpie to write on my dvds, like if it's all documents that I backed up on the dvd, I write 'doc' on the dvd with the sharpie.

infrarecorder is a freeware cd/dvd burner/iso maker that is gets the job done. Best of all, the program is tiny (3.17mb) and can be run off a zip archive with full functionality.

I believe infrarecorder is designed for xp, but I seen no indication that it wouldn't run in vista.

Here's a very short Wikipedia article on infrarecorder if you want to read up on it.

Given that about 70% of the time you can get Nero for free (after rebates) I'd go with that.

I use Nero, for sure. It's fantastic and works really well, and yes, it was free after all the rebates I received.
