Where can I buy a genuine copy of 64-bit Windows XP Pro SP2?

    Thanks in advance.

Why XP-64 though? XP64 is based off of a different code base, and driver and program support are both really bad from my understanding. I'd consider getting XP-32.

I need a copy of 64-bit Windows for a workstation which needs to optimize 4GB of memory. I know a 32-bit OS can only optimize around 3.2 or so GB, and even a 64-bit OS may not fully recognize all 4GB, but it will likely recognize around 3.5GB or so.

In any case it must be Windows XP Pro SP2 x64 because Vista isnt supported where I work yet.

Vaio2k7, I've used XP x64 before, and while its a great, and super stable, OS I can't urge you strongly enough not to use it. There are numerous driver compatibility issues and if you plan on using it on a laptop its even worse. Program compatibility isn't horrible, though there are a lot of programs that don't run on it due to the fact that its based off of Windows Server 2003.

Like I said, its a super stable, and very fast OS, but it is truly a nightmare to get going. On a desktop, its possible, but if you want it on a notebook you may as well forget it, as I can almost guarantee that it won't work.

Perhaps I should pose this question:

Whats the best laptop out there in the market today which can be customized with the following specifications:

    Windows XP Professional SP2 x64
at least a Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 Processor
    4GB RAM
    120-160 GB HDD
Optical Disc Drive to burn DVDs

Graphics card is a not a priority. Budget is around $3000-3500.

I have also looked into the prospect of a Macbook Pro. Basically my intent is to use this laptop as the workstation, and also have an external 22 or 23 inch widescreen monitor. This laptop will almost solely be used to run Matlab, a computing software, with our projects. It will not be connected to the network so there is no internet usage, just our project work, and Office type applications.

Actually thinking about it now, Vista Ultimate x64 may be possible since this workstation will be off the network...but I will have to confirm that with my IT group.

You can check out the Hp 8510w or 8710w in the business section at www.hp.com

or you can customize a Clevo/Sager/Compal/Asus at www.xoticpc.com to not include network adapters.

Thanks I'll look into them. The 2 HP models though appear uncustomizable. I was just customizing the HP dv6500t series and for under $1800 I have some pretty incredible specifications:

    Vista Ultimate x64
Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 Processor
    4GB RAM
    120 GB HDD

Seems a little too good to be true but this would give plenty of room for an external monitor and a copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 x64 if my IT group will decline at Vista Ultimate x64

I looked into some of the Dell Precision models. I will look into Toshiba but basically the laptop has to come with Windows XP Pro SP2 x64 or else buy that copy of x64 Windows separately.

Does anyone know how a Macbook Pro handles Windows XP Pro SP2 x64? I am not too knowledgeable about Windows on a Mac but is it possible for dual boot, or rather, have the Macbook Pro simply boot Windows XP x64?

the hp's i mentioned are in fact customizable

let me post link's I'll edit post with links

    Edit:
    http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/Mi...ore/smProdCat/PSG/notebooks/HP_8510p_notebook
    link to hp 8510p

Hp is being slick, if you go to hp.com and select business , and then click on performance notebooks, you see a horizontal list of notebooks. under the hp 8510p you see the big red box labeled "pre-configured models", right under that there is a link that says "configure pc" if you click on that you can select what features/programs you'd like.
I'm not sure as to if they offer 64-bit operating system's though. You can shoot them an e-mail and ask.
