    System restore points at work.

C: > properties > disk cleanup > more options > you can delete all but the most recent system restore point and you will get back some space.

Else you could turn off system restore completely, but make sure you have a backup of your data or even better a complete PC backup or similar... though I would not recommend turning it off completely.

You can reduce the shadow copy storage size though...

command prompt (as admin) and vssadmin list shadowstorage > that will give you the size allocated / size being used...

I ran into the same problem, disk space evaporates on Vista. It's the primary reason I'm looking for external hard drives, and if anyone knows of any good deals on 500GB-1TB externals please post them (available shipping to Canada)

    [232GB] - [9 or 10GB (Recovery Partition)] = 223GB. Seems to be fine.

Thats what people have been saying... its probably used up by the system restore points.

Have you tried doing a disk cleanup, from within Vista?

Also, if you really want to clean up as much as possible, try getting in EasyCleaner and chose unnecessary > find > select all > delete all ..... it might help probably!!!
