Hello, because my sister claimed SP1 gave her computer troubles, we restored it to the last point. However, we noticed she didn't gain back her space, so the installation file is still somewhere. We want to know where it is so we can re-install SP1, as we found out it hadn't been an SP1 problem. Thank you. Another problem we have is that her ENTER key isn't working. We lifted up the key, and nothing is stuck, and restarted quite a few times. Any suggestions or tests or something we can do to find out what's wrong? (The enter key problem is why this is a wall of text >.> ) EDIT: Well, Windows Update is offering us SP1 again, but we know it's somewhere on the comp. We want to find it and delete the old one before we download the new one, so we don't lose double the space. So, where did it download to?

well, most likely the space lost was the system restore point space. and even if you did download SP1 again, I think if you downloaded through windows update, it should just overwrite the old file. I could be wrong, though. As far as the enter key goes - it could just be a bad connection with the keyboard and motherboard. I'd try to get a new keyboard to test it out if the computer is stil. under warranty.

Thank you for your help. But I have a question: doing a system restore uses up space?

Usually doing a system restore isn't supposed to create another restore point but it's possible that restarting the PC or installing anything since the system restore may have triggered the restore point creation. In any case, you can check out the SoftwareDistribution folder in Windows. You might find your SP1 files there.
Regarding the Enter button, you can try to disable and re-enable the Keyboard through Device Manager (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware Tab). It's a good chance that you have a faulty keyboard though. -
Oh, I know that making a restore point uses up space, but I meant, restoring to a restore point, if that takes up space. Doesn't look like it's in SoftwareDistribution. And I got to the the Device Manager, but where do you disable it?

The problems you mentioned don't seem to be related to vista SP1.

No, they're not related. That's why we wanted to know where it was downloaded to, so we could re-install SP1 again. The problems we thought we had with SP1 were some I have not posted.
The problems with the keyboard are a seperate issue entirely, I just didn't want to make 2 threads.
Where does SP1 download to?
