The problem is, I need Vista 64 bit operating system.
And all the bloody notebooks I want come with Vista 32 bit.
(I want to dual boot: Vista Utlimate 64 bit and Ubuntu)
I've called both Dell and Alienware (companies that have the
notebooks I'm interested in) and asked if they can provide
me with the Vista 64 Bit OEM CDs.
After an hour on the phone with 5 different sales/support/tech
reps with thick accents and names I can't even pronounce,
I have come to the conclusion either Dell doesn't have 64 bit
OEM OS CDs in stock, 64 bit Vista OEM CDs don't exist or
the 5 different people I've talked don't know jack and had no
clue as to what I wanted.
So I come to you notebook enthusiasts, lead me to the path
of the 64 bit Vista OEM image/CD/files
P.S.
I've recently got hold of an image of Winbeta that states it
is a "RTM" version of x86 and x64 Vista. Is this the OEM CD
or is this something completely different?
(OEM, RTM, Retail, all different?)

Hi.
You can always upgrade to Vista64 once you buy a laptop.
Your Vista32 key will work for Vista64 as well.
If you live in the USA you can buy the OEM DVD for $12.99

If you want a Vista reinstall disk, MS now sells them with SP1...

If you want an OEM disk (read: OS install + license), they can be found at newegg, amazon, ebay, etc.

There needs to be some clarification though... if you order a DVD through windows marketplace, you must enter a product key. If that key is found to be vista ultimate, they will charge you $15.99 not $12.99 for the disk.
Don't ask me why they did that.
Where can I get my hands on a Vista OEM CD?
