I know theres a thead on free software, but Im curious as to know what you MUST install after you format your hard drive completly.

Other than the usual updates for security, software I find immediatly:
-iTunes (I love it, say what you want)
    -Firefox
    -Newsleecher Pro (I love newsgroups)
-MADDEN 07 and NHL 07 must have games for me
    -Microsoft Office
    -MSN with msn Plus!!
-All the appropriate divx codecs, K-Lite Pack is very good

    Lets hear what you got!

First in is Total Commander, so that I can find my way around my files. Then McAfee to make sure I don't catch any new diseases while the defences are down, closely followed by ZoneAlarm for the same reason. Then Firefox so I can start checking for updates to software and drivers before I install my current versions.

Other than media codecs/plugins, I don't install anything else on a fresh install. (K)Ubuntu comes with everything I need out of the box.

Msn Plus yuck! lol. I use MSN Messenger 7.5 because Windows Live Messenger (MSN8??) is horrible to use and I find uses more system resources than 7.5

Also my sisters installed MSN Plus on their PC that they share (Without me knowing) and it was bundled with spyware. Is it possible to get it without spyware? That way I can put it back on for them...

I have a copy of all the EXEs backed up on DVD. I just use this disk after reformatting to get my computers working exactly how I want them too -- every time.

Well thank you for that

To OP: see this thread for my post (sorry, but too lazy to even copy+paste)

Oh, I only use autopatcher as I'd rather have everything ready to install, rather than have to download it all. But that's just me. Plus it also allows you to tweak XP
