I need a good software or better than cucusoft? I want to make my movies/shows/anime to a different video format. And would like to keep my anime with subtitles bc when i convert wit cucu i loose my subs. Whats the best video format i was thinking of switching all to mp4 to play on both my blueray player on my tv and to not install vlc and just use quicktime on my laptop.

MeGUI use x264 & AAC codecs.

Use MKVMerge and just mux the subtitles back into the final product.

You can use MP4 but I recommend MKV.

Keep in mind doing any encoding of your files is going to reduce the quality, unless your not encoding the file and simply changing the container (eg, changing a mp4 into a mkv)

I also recommend you not use quicktime, its a pretty crappy player most people only use it for .mov files and even those I use quicktime lite or quicktime alternative instead so it can play in Media Player Classic

I made an encoding tutorial you may want to check out. Even though you lose quality when you recode a video, if you use my tutorial you probably wont notice the loss and end up with a smaller more compressed file.

if your into paying for something I like to use Cyberlink Media Espresso due to the fact it is one of the few apps that use ati stream and it converts fast!! if your into the free stuff then freemake has a converter that works quite well

Handbrake does a pretty darn good job with everything, and VidCoder is Handbrake with a slightly nicer GUI

MeGUI uses more tools than Handbrake, it may seem more daunting to use at first but that does not change the fact its a more capable program.

The top x264 front ends are:

    MeGUI
    Handbrake
    StaxRip
    Avidemux

I have used them all pretty extensively.

Any of these "convert anything to anything" programs are not something I would touch with a 10 foot RJ45 cable, because they just do a rough job in most situations and will not give me the desired quality I want or options I need.

handbrake seems more simple. I have a question about it what settings should i use for it if I wanna make the file smaller and still keep video/audio quality?

Bitrate will change file sizes, but you'll also loose quality. There's really not a way to have both. I guess you could downscale the video, and still keep the same bitrate, but then you'd loose the original frame dimensions.

It's really one or the other. :(

Storage is cheap these days. What's your reason for wanting it small? When I re-encode (I usually don't because storage is cheap) I just use a constant quality setting and let the bits fall where they may. Constant Q is quicker too because it only needs one pass.

I would not personally raid those hybrid drives, i would have a strong paranoia of the SSD portion not working properly since it will be in Raid.

It may not recognize the data it should be caching and thus just become an overpriced hdd.

Unless you meant Raid 1 that would be fine, but then you would have 500GB not 1TB.

Raid is over rated for speed (Raid 0) anyways. Even one of the few things its very good for (video work) is not really a problem. Doing a x264 encode is fully cpu limited for me even with a 3.6ghz quad core the HDD never gets maxed out.

I personally use Winavi to convert videos, and I have to say it's a pretty fast encoder.
