So I have Sonic RecordNow that came with the laptop. A few days ago, I was going to make an ISO of a DVD that I burnt earlier, to transfer it to another computer I have at home that doesn't havea DVD drive. I put it in, the autorun thing doesn't pop up, and in Windows Explorer it just says "DVD-RAM Drive", and when I click on it - "Please insert disk in drive D:". Ok. I thought, maybe it's a bad burn? Eventually, and I didn't know why, I kept inserting the DVD into the laptop and sooner or later it worked.
I thought this was happening because I had spilled coffee on my laptop a month ago, and even though the DVD drive worked right after when I tested it, I thought maybe it got worse with time.
So this morning, I burnt a copy of a CD I burnt earlier using Sonic. It ejected the new CD when it was done burning. I put it back in to test whether or not the burn worked, with Sonic still open so that I don't have to re-rip if there was a problem with the burn. Same thing - autorun doesn't pop up and Windows Explorer just says DVD-RAM Drive, Please insert disk in drive D:. I put the DVD in my roommate's computer, it worked. I thought this was the end of my drive.
So I exited Sonic, cause I now knew that the disk worked, just not my computer. And then reinserted the disk again, for no reason. Autorun works and it shows up in Windows Explorer! What!!! I did it again 3 times, worked each time. Aha!!
Why does Sonic try to mess with my head???

It only happens when Sonic is running, so it's not the coffee. Sonic is the only program that can read the CD/DVD if it's open before the disk inserted, which means that the drive is readable, but Sonic is preventing everyone else (Win Explorer, etc) from reading it.
This doesn't happen with CloneCD/CloneDVD/AnyDVD/WinDVD or MacDrive, and the drive itself is readable, which means that it's Sonic that's at fault. I've never liked Sonic, I think I'll get Nero...

What's Sonic's problem?
