So I was looking through some study material and I found a .cards file. I'm guessing they're flashcards, but I have no idea what program opens them. Do any of you know?

Great Question, I have never seen that in 20 + years, I would try notepad or wordpad first.
OR could it have been a typo and the extension is really .crd ??? Please see my PM

From a Google search: "A file with the CARD file extension is a Funkiball Adventure Auto-Saved Game file."

It's definitely not a game save file. The file was developed for my pharm class and upon opening it in notepad, you can make out pharm related material. I ran a google search as well and didn't come up with anything helpful.

I tried this program that came up during a search called azzcardile, but it can't open it either. At this point I'm really curious about what opens it since this is the first time I haven't been able to figure it out in a few minutes.
