    Hello,

I know there are different version of of Office 2007 just like Vista. What are the differences? I believe each version has same features and etc. This has been bugging me for a long time. Why is one version of Office 2007 so much more expensive than other version...

    Thank You,

If you are looking for more than just Office Standard I would check out www.theultimatesteal.com. They have Office 2007 Ultimate for like $60!! :)

The difference is, each Office Suite version includes different amount of software.

Office Basic 2007: Excel, Outlook, Word.
Office Standard 2007: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word.
Office Home and Student 2007: Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Word.
    .
    . etc.
    .
Office Ultimate 2007: Access, Accounting Express, Excel, InfoPath, Groove, OneNote, Outlook BCM, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word.

Would I be able to buy the student version of Ultimate and sell it in eBay? I already have enterprise version from one of my employers. By the way, why is Enterprise version so cheap even though it is very similar to Ultimate?

Is there a difference between Retail and Student version of office 2007 ultimate?

    Thanks,

I deleted my previous reply to this question about Enterprise and Ultimate pricing since I made a mistake. I just checked on the pricing, Enterprise is not that much cheaper than Ultimate, the much lower price you saw is the OEM version.

The main differences are, Ultimate has Accounting Express and Outlook with Business Contact Manager, Enterprise has Communicator and regular Outlook instead. But if you don't need Outlook with BCM, the Enterprise may be a better deal, since it comes with Communicator that cost $31, but Accounting Express you can download it for free from MS:

Features wise, there is no difference.

I've numbered your questions, so that my answers are clearer. A good reading on Office 2007 licensing (tout, tout! :p) can be found here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/800528-post5.html

    1. According to the Ultimate-Steal promotion terms, no you cannot (i.e. "shouldn't"). This offer is good only to eligible students who attend an educational institution geographically located in the United States. This offer is non-transferable. http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/terms.aspx Microsoft or an appointed vendor may contact you to verify that you are a current student. If documentation is not provided indicating that you are a current student, you will be liable to reimburse Microsoft for the difference between what you paid and the estimated retail price of the software.

    2. This is definitely not an apples-to-apples comparison. The Enterprise version of the 2007 Office Suite is available to Volume-Licensing customers only, while the Ultimate version is a Retail one.

    3. The FPP (Retail) version of Office 2007 Ultimate provides you with two licenses, it is transferable among PCs and fully upgradeable. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA102103171033.aspx Now, as far as the UltimateSteal version of Office 2007 is concerned, please refer to §1 above. The differences are license-wise, not features-wise... but this should also be always taken into account, too. HTH :)
