I used klite with XP but found that Vista Codec Pack was better with Vista OS. But a friend of mine today suggested CCCP. I am not sure between Vista Codec Pack or CCCP. Can you suggest something if you have some experience?

Ive used both and prefer CCCP. I'm sure its just me, but it seems to render video better.

The latest K-Lite supports Vista, I installed it, no problem. :)

Codec packs are great but they have drawbacks. I hit some major snags with codec packs/quicktime and Nokia PC Suite. Of course, at the time I did not know what the cause was. After 10 reinstalls I realised that the codec pack was screwing things up eventhough I would configure it not to. In any case, one can install what one wants. What I do for the past two years?

    1. AC3 codec (eventhough I have a sound card that can do I, I put this on). Why? Some films are badly encoded and do not support the Creative AC3+DTS decoder.
    2. DivX Codec
    3. Core AVC +Haali Media Splitter
    4. Media Player Classic configured with ASIO AC3+AVC+Haali+DTS+DX10 HDD accel+GC configured on high quality.
    5. For everything else there is VLC. A player I hate but it does the job.

No Auto-sub loading (i wont break my hand if I drag the subtitle on my player), no super extra other pointless stuff loading in the system tray and hogging your RAM. With my setup I can play everything and HD plays better and faster than on any other codec pack.

No problems with K-lite codec pack here. CCCP is really good from what I hear so it's also worth a try.

    K-Lite Codec Pack.
When playing h264 video files, I noticed a lag with CCCP while I don't have any lag with K-Lite even though both are using Media Player Classic.

wow, seems like klite is also a contender along with VCP and CCCP. so from the three, which one provides the best video quality?? I download lot of videos from net and most are DivX, but is there one codec pack better than another in terms of rendering??

The problem is not the player it is the codec. CCCP has a slower codec than K-Lite that is why you notice these differences. KLite pales compared to AVC+Haali.

Thank you for the information. I already know that though, that's why I said I've notice the difference while using the same player. :)

I've used the CCCP for about a year now, and it hasn't let me down yet.

Question to Wishmaker: Your solution is absolutely different than what most people would say they use, but it could be worth a shot also. Can you plz tell where did you download the components from and how is your video quality?? i don't like adding unnecessary stuff to my HDD too, thats why I only use WMP as my sole media player. How does your configuration work with WMP or WMC, in terms of rendering quality/speed, although i care more for visual clarity than speed as long as playback doesnt hiccup..

WMC isn't even an install file. You click on the .exe and it opens. Nothing to install. And it runs with very little resources

K-lite standard only takes up about 24MB of your HDD with everything installed and i've personally had no problems with it

I love HD rips so my HDD has tons of those. CoreAVC is the best HD codec out there. There is nothing faster and it does not require huge amounts of processing power. I was playing 1080p rips with MPC+CoreAVC on a 2.2 Northwood with no lag, no issues. I even tried on a 1.8 Dothan and it works.

I am at work all day. As soon as I get home, I will write you a pm and if you are interested, will provide you my files and CoreAVC license.

Thanks Wishmaker. I will wait. Like you said in prev post that you have lot of HDRips, I have lot of DVDRips (most with DivX codec), and I am trying to make them look better on my glossy screen. Do you think CoreAVC will help there, or any other codec?

Hey mate. I just got home but I have some guests. I don't think I will have the time to send you the links at the screeshots. If you can wait till tomorrow, if not, try k-lite and then try mine :p.
