For some reason, sometimes when I boot my computer (specs below), the network icons in the system tray take a bit longer to load and display in the tray, and during the wait for the icons to load, the icons on my desktop "flicker" a time or two and then finally the icons show up in the tray.

    Any ideas?

I have the latest drivers for my LAN and WLAN cards.

Sounds relatively normal to me. Windows isn't normally pretty when booting.

It only started doing this recently...

Normally, the network icons were among the first to display, now they're nearly always last.

It doesn't bother anything, but I was just curious.

    Hmm, then it's unusual.

Have you installed anything that could have caused that?

Well, I did do a clean install of XP, and it has just done it since then. XP didn't have this behavior before the clean install.

Used the same disc, and same drivers.

Perhaps you've got some new processes/services running on startup?

    Any ideas anyone?

It is kind of annoying to have this happen when it didn't on the previous install of XP.

The only other thing I can think of is extra crap building up in your registry. Do you have some sort of registry cleaner?

It's a clean install, as of Friday, Nov. 14, and has done it since the clean install.

I have noticed something though, it *seems* to load just fine when I boot the computer without a LAN cable plugged in or WLAN enabled on login. Basically, no internet coming to the computer.

Then I would say that you are using newer drivers than your previous install, which don't like to act as nicely as the old ones.

    I'm using the same ones.

I have a folder ... "XP Drivers" that I use everytime I do a clean install.

Matt, do you have any network mapped drives? This can cause the sort of slowdown you are seeing.
