I will be creating a web site for our small business - it will be informational initially and ultimately e-commerce. What software do you recommend for such a project?

Thanks in adance for the guidance.

do you mean web authoring software or something more like internet server software?

for basic web authoring front page is good. for more robust development applications using visual studio or dreamweaver are also good.

for internet server software IIS from Microsoft (which comes with Microsoft XP Pro or any server OS) or the free Apache server are good.

I use microsoft front page for my site. I do not do any selling from the site so no shopping cart or anything like that but i believe front page has the ability to do so.
When you sign up for a host, make sure they will allow "front page extensions" if you do plan to use front page and sell things from the site. For hosting i use www.godaddy.com

Sharp AL27, Athlon 64 2700+ 60Gb hdd, 512Mb mem, 64Mb vid, superbright lcd. Great choice for business use.
