Hi guys, I am sure everyone here knows about win7 coming out oct.22. Just a question, I heard this thing called "warp" and you can run games without a dedicated video card? Is this true, is it "built in" and works right away with the game and os or will is it a seperate program and you have to configure it yourself?
    thanks.

this is impossible. There has to be some sort of video card use. In order for anything to appear on the screen, there has to be one.

Because the video card puts the image on screen, it also has to be able to handle the actual files being put on the screen. Better handling= better quality and FPS

Short answer? no. Warp doesn't exist.

The OP is referring to a new DirectX component: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd285359.aspx

Basically it offloads the processing for a GPU onto the CPU. The result is that if you have a very outdated graphics card and a relatively modern CPU, you will get higher frame rates.

For most people, this will do nothing, since the fastest CPUs can only render graphics at about 1/5 to 1/2 the speed of even an entry level graphics card.

this is supposed to be how Intels new cpu/gpu mixed architecture is going to work. let the cpu do the simple stuff while the register and matrix-math heavy gpu gets freed up for that work.

"WARP" describes the performance very accurately.

If I remember correctly. WARP was designed in order to bring everyone up to DX10.1 levels so that the Windows 7 interface could run on any PC. This doesn't mean that it lets you play any game with a terrible GPU and decent CPU, it just means that the CPU can do certain graphical computations necessary to display DX10.1/DX11 UI, even if your GPU is older.
