Whenever I open WLM 2011 it freezes. I can't select anything or send any messages or anything whatsoever, it's totally frozen. I've tried everything I could think of including completely obliterating everything to do with WLM in the registry and in folders. I've tried a few WLM "cleaners" that also delete everything to do with WLM. I've tried installing an old version and upgrading it to WLM 2011. Nothing has worked.

Does anyone have any possible idea/solution of what might be going on and how I could fix it? Thanks.

I have a similar problem with WLM 2011. It freezes for long periods of time and is barely useable. The problem shows up when I don't leave my laptop enough time to load all the services at boot-up and something doesn't load in the system.

So what I did is first set the windows live ID sign-in assistant service to manual (from automatic) and whenever I boot-up my laptop, give it enough time to load everything.

If it doesn't load whatever service it needs, the only way to try again is to restart your laptop and let it do its thing again, giving it more time.

what version of windows are you using? if you are using windows 7, i suggest updating to the latest service packs and the latest drivers. the windows live essentials suite now utilize direct2d. unfortunately, they have bugs which have caused various headaches for various apps that used direct2d (ie9, wlmovie maker(my personal experience), wlm maybe?). upgrading to latest drivers plus sp1 on windows 7 seemed to have resolved these issues for me since MS updated direct2d and related files in the update.

For some reason it's working now. I installed some HP Win7 essential update thing. I don't know if that updated some damaged Windows files or what. But earlier I installed the old messenger and then installed WLM 2011 (tried before) but this time it worked.

Ran A-Patch to remove all the ads and stuff...and now it's perfect. I love WLM. It's sooo shiny. :p

Nice that you resolved it. :)

By the way, HP Essential update contains of a set of Windows OEM hotfixes that are missing from the SP1 or older. Made it easier to a simple package to download instead of us email a request to MS for them.

I have a similar but sporadic issue with WLM 2011 as well as WLM 2010, although it happens much less with WLM 2011. For me, the application just crashes on start and requires me to shut it down in the task manager and then open it again and it works fine.
