I own a Gateway FX laptop. It has a sensitive touch media bar. Something has happened to the volume control. It looks like it is damaged around the side that lowers the volume. Now it is perpetually lowering the volume. I can not make it stop. Is there any way to disable the media bar on my lappy? please help!!

Do you have any software on the machine that controls the media bar, that launches on startup, you will probably have to disable this to stop it from working?

You might be able to disable it in the device manager under system devices. I am referencing this off of my HP so I don't know if it will be similar to yours.

For my system it has 2 "High Definition Audio Controllers". One controls the volume bar on my keyboard and the other is for the one in your taskbar. I am able to disable the touch bar above my keyboard while leaving the one in the taskbar still functional.

Your computer might have a similar setup and you can play around with the audio controllers.

Let me know if this helps.

I was able to disable only the media bar above my keyboard with this, but I have a different brand so that may be why. Did you only see 1 "High Definition Audio Controller"? If so, it may be labeled or named differently and maybe you can find it by browsing through device manager.

My girlfriend has a Gateway and I'll mess around with it as soon as I can if you haven't got yours fixed by then. Unfortunately, her Gateway is having some major issues and this may be a while. Bad day for Gateways I guess.

I do have 1 High def audio controller in my device manager, but disabling it disables all sound and not just the media bar.

Might be worth posting in the gateway section of the forum:

Gateway Laptop Forums - eMachines and Gateway Notebook Discussions

I've had a search on the web and on here and I've not been able to find out what exactly controls the bar itself.

Someone may be able to tell you how to disable the bar if possible in the gateway section. On previous machines (not gateways), there's been a software named something like launch manager which controls things like this, on an old acer machine I had, the media buttons similar to the one you have was controlled by the synaptics touchpad driver. So it could be controlled by any number of these things.

Are there any other devices listed that look like the might control it? It may be labeled as something else. I'll start searching around to see if I can find out. Sorry this didn't work out.
