I need some help with Vista Ultimate... My system came up with Vista Basic and then I upgraded to Ultimate via the anytime upgrade disc.

Now I'm selling my laptop so I want to be able to install Ultimate on my new system - is it as simple as just installing it on the new system or is there anything else I have to do?

    Thanks!

I do not think you are legally allowed to separate an upgrade. Maybe I'm wrong, but you may want to look into it otherwise you'll leave yourself a worthless license.

if I understand you right, you "purchased" an upgrade to Vista Ultimate?? for your laptop and now you're wanting to put basic back on the laptop to sell it. I used to think their would be no problem, but as stated, legally, you may not be able to do it.

Can you do it, well, yes, but where is the COA for ultimate? Did you put it as required on the laptop when you upgraded it? Or is it stll attached to the sleeve, etc.

Im sure you can disconect your ultimate by just putting basic back on and activate it, although you may be prompted to do it over the phone, and on your new machine, just put the ultimate back on if you have a lower version on new machine, you will most likley be prompted to phone in for the licence key to verify that a transfer has been made, I think they key here is to have you old vista basic activated on your old machine, the possible problem that might come up if you are trying to put ultimate on top of something lets say home premium, the fact is you paid a ton of money to upgrade from basic to ultimate, on your new machine, you may want to ask dealer to put basic on machine if you are buying a new one.
All in all you have asked a good question and I think alot of people would like to know the answer to this.

P.S phone MS and try to get the info off of them

Right.. I would be buying a new system with basic so I would want to use this Ultimate upgrade on the new system.

I just called the anytime upgrade people. If anyone else is interested, sign into the microsoft digital locker and you can handle the uninstall, re-install to a new system from that screen - it will store your license online. Cheers!
