Has anyone ever compared these two? I know Vista tends to do more caching, hard drive seeking etc, but does it have any extra power saving features that XP doesnt? Any preference to either around here considering only battery life?

XP has taken harsh criticism for its lack of power efficiency. Vista, Linux, BSD, and OS X offer worlds of improvements in power savings in the form of CPU idle states, accessory power control, etc.
