Hey, I finally got vista up and running, the upgrade wouldnt work so I did a clean install. I just have a few questions, Im sorry if they have already been answered elsewhere but I searched and couldnt seem to find any answers.

1.First of its not a big problem but why the big gap next to the battery icon? I know this happens to everyone as my friend has vista on her laptop.

2.After downloading and installing hp drivers, I still cant use my microphone and I really want to try out speech recognition, is there anything I can do? The webcam isnt appearing in Computer either.

3.Vista seems to make my computer load 75% of the time, I mean the loading light is lit up and I can hear my computer doing things but this is even when it is just sat there, I can still click on things and it doesnt go slow, but it is still very annoying.

I would be very greatfull if anyone could answer any of my questions, thanks,

    1. Wasted taskbar space is annoying, I know.
    2. Can't help with that, sorry.
    3. That's Vista indexing your machine for the search feature.

not much one can do about this unless u want to play around with the icon/font display size. vista has the tendency to decide how to present a view depending on the screen resolution.

eventually using a 3rd party app for desktop presentation would solve the issue

u might need to chase hp support and faq sites for this. but it is not just hp, many other brands have the same issue with drivers working corretly within vista (more or less)

vista constantly checking and re.arraging working processes to make sure that all running apps are being snapped into action whenever they r being required
i would recommend u leave it alone for a few days, once vista catches up with all the indexing and superfetch and so on, u will notice a much quieter vista performance

    my 2 cents

    cheers ...

Thankyou very much for all your replies, I might sent HP an email, and my mind is now at rest about the constant loading. :)

And I have 1gb of ram.
