I have big problems with my vista and internet connection. Since i got this notebook i got a 16Mbit internet speed upgrade. But on my notebook i could never got downloads bigger then 250Kb, and it should be around 1500 or so.
I came with my friends notebook which has XP and we connected it to my home wireless network he got a perfect 1580Kb/s download with oscilation of lik 5-10Kb up or down. It seems that something is holding my notebook back from making a full speed. it just pushes it to 250Kb download and just cant get over.

I tried connection my notebook both with cable and wireless but nothing helps.

    can anybody help with this.

    Thank you.!

The notebook is hp 8710w and the router is a zyxel 660HW

Are you using any 3rd party firewalls or network management tools ? Check your background apps.

Also check your drivers (but i don't think that is the cause since both Wired and Wireless connection act same)

A classic case of PEBKAC. (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair.)

    ...big ol' grin...

Glad you got it worked out. I had a strange wired connection slowdown with one HUB in my office. Three other machine connected to that hub ran at full speed. The new Sony Vaio with Vista ran at about 1/3 the normal bandwidth. Connected to another hub on the same network it ran 100%. Swapped the HUB and it was 100%. VERY STRANGE.

I dual boot. I have noticed that internet speed is considerably slower in Vista. I am back to using XP.

it's awesome how this OP has already admitted that the network problem was user error and nothing to do with Vista
