I have an Dell inspiron 1720 came with Windows Vista Premium. I haven't install any programs yet, and I don't think it made any different.

Problems was, when I surf the net, the Quick Launch Button & the time clock with the few icons next to it all disappeared. The bottom taskbar which should show the programs you opened all gone blank and the start button was move slightly of the left of the screen. I cannot use Windows Flip 3d (shortcut key) to find what I opened. Laptop went nuts, I have no choice but to reboot.

Afterward, I thought it was a virus or some hacker got in my laptop (since I heard of Vista Security Problem before), so I checked it with Mcfee and nothing. Then I did a update on Vista patches and it happaned again, the 2nd time.

Anyone have these problems with Vista?

I wish they offer Windows XP Professional SP2 instead.

Try right-clicking on the task bar and check the Lock the Taskbar option to turn that option on.

One other question: When you right-click on the taskbar and select Properties, do you have Auto-hide the taskbar checked and so enabled?

How about when you right-click on the taskbar and select Properties, do you have Keep the taskbar on top of other windows checked and so enabled?

Thanks for all your quick reply.

The taskbar is lock for sure. It is always on top and it is not auto hide. Just don't know why all the button vanished. Perhaps this is the bug we all have to live with until sp1 or 2 fix it.

I send suggestion to Microsoft, hope they hear it.

I will speak to Dell and maybe they can give me a something for the trouble.

Hmmm... You said you installed didn't install anything but you DO have Macfee on the system.

Perhaps you should try restoring the system to factory setting. This is the first time I've seen a problem like yours.

It is likely something on your PC causing this. Like the previous poster, I've not heard of this (on Vista anyway, it is a known problem on XP), nor have I seen it myself and I've been running Vista since June.
