I got this problem. I am using windows vista.

While working on my report in Windows MS Word, I felt something weird happening in my OS. I cannot save - it kept saying that I got insufficient memory (which is not really!). I cannot restart or shutdown my computer. I cannot open a file. My AVG (Free Edition) goes crazy saying my virus vault is full, dll is not working, etc. And then I lost my internet connection.

Is this a virus (updated AVG didn't find any virus)? Or a Vista problem? How do I fix this? By the way, this does not occur always (meaning, I can stay on working my laptop for hours), but it happens to me 3 times already.

    Can somebody help me, please?

Something's leaking memory. I would save everything and clean install.

I've never heard this happen to anyone else (including me) so it has to be a virus. Go to your virus vault in Avg and delete all the traces in there, then install a few other well known anti-virus apps to wipe out everything else you may have.

Is it alright if I find a new anti-virus application and run it side by side with AVG?

I can't 'restart' everything at the moment due to my report going on...

Yes, i recommend getting Spybot search and destroy, Ad-aware 2007, Avast, Antivir, and a-squared free to help you. All of these are available off of: http://www.download.com

I would advise downloading and installing Avast! AV. It's as good if not better than AVG and it's free for home use. Just google.

Also i recommend that after you finish downloading and updating your arsenal that you boot up in safe mode without any network connections so you can tangle with the viri without them getting any internet backup., If you need any more help just post.

Don't run any 2 av Apps side by side. Your system will crash for sure.

Running two AV programs side by side is unlikely to make your system crash. I've been running a few of them next to each other for a while and I've yet to encounter any problems.

Still, try and fix your problem simply by using anti-virus. If that fails then a clean install is likely going to be your best bet.

You can have as many passive scanners like Spybot on your computer at one time as you like. Problems arise when you use more than one active scanner at a time, like Norton, McAfee, and PCCillin.

    Ok.

    Here's what I did...

I un-install my AVG free edition and I downloaded and installed Avant.

I ran a thorough scan on my laptop but didn't detect anything wrong (minus the internet connection). So far, nothing weird is happening with my Windows Vista - Asus Laptop.

    Anything I need to do?

Do you mean Avast! Or Avant? I haven't ever heard of Avant so you may have downloaded some spyware.

    Sorry, it's Avast.

So far, there's nothing weird happening in my laptop. I got a funny feeling that the problem was the AVG.
