So I got Vista Business version from my Alma Mater today...
They only had the 32 bit version though (they used to sell XP 32 and 64 together).

so my question is... will the key I have for the 32-bit version work for the 64-bit one?

Well that sucks. I wanted the x64 version :-/
Hrm... well, I probably wont stick with Vista for long anyway. Guess I'll muck around with the 32 bit version and move back to xp later.

The key will work for both 32- and 64-bit installations.
The key won't work if you will try to install another version of the OS, i.e Ultimate or Home Premium, etc.

As long as you have 64-bit installation media, and the license key for the version you are trying to install you should be fine.

it all depends if your system is OEM or not. if it is bought separatelly, then it should and will work. if it is an OEM, then it will probably not, but Im not sure there.....you can read this, should clear this up for you. :)

For the retail version both 32 and 64 bits have the same activation number.

No, if you want to upgrade to 64 you have to buy new software.

Theres no need to buy anything. Your 32bit key will work for 64bit aslong as you install the same version your purchased (basic, home premium, ultimate). 'Upgrading' to 64bit isnt exactly the proper term, its more like switching as you have to do a clean install.
