I created a separate partition to install Vista on, and clearly instructed the installer to put it on that partition. When i install it, it seems to be writing everything to my main XP partition though...does anyone know what gives?

Additionally, I let the install carry through once, and when it rebooted it asked me whether i wanted to start my old version of windows or continue the windows installation. When I tried to continue the installation, it gave me the error message "windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation"...this is all very perplexing to me and I'm almost wishing that I hadn't even started this.

    Thanks in advance

It might be that the dvd you created didnt write properly. But another thing is that maybe the partition wasnt set to be active so the computer doesnt see it.

I've have installed the Vista second beta and the install was flawless however i installed it on a seperate harddrive so i didnt need to partition my old one.

previous version of windows refers to XP. if XP is still runing then you were installing to the correct partition (i guess).

you can always try to reinstall. I don't recall the install procedure since I did it more than 2 months ago.
