    Hello, people!
I have Vista 64 and up until tonight was only getting around 10-12 processes running in the task manager. Updated my video card drivers and noticed that I now have around 50 processes running? I am not sure what caused that, any ideas?

    Appreciate it,

    BiG_V

10-12 processes...that's pretty much impossible, especially on Vista...50 is pretty much normal, though if tweaked you can get it lower.

it was possible that the manager just didn't show them all before, that's why. i just don't know how they all showed up all of a sudden.

Your "show processes from all users" box was previously unchecked, and now it is checked. Yes, no, maybe?

Was thinking that, but even when you don't have that unchecked, a lot of processes still run...definitely more than 10-12

yeah it's the "show processes from all users".

Right now I have about 12 processes, when I unchecked that box, I get over 40 processes.

You've clearly done a lot of tweaking. I'm willing to bet you're running as the "Administrator" account as well, not a separate user account.

Without any tweaks, vista home premium boots up in 35-40 secs for me. So what's all the tweaking about?

Some people just want the most out of their systems, whether they need it or not. I understand fully, I used to be that way. Once you fix computers for a living you kind of get bored tweaking your own systems. If it works, it works, and you DON'T TOUCH IT :p

Haha, so true. When I went through Les' tweaking guide, I skipped the part about disabling services. Thee wasn't that much info on any of them online and specifically what would stop working, so I decided the extra 5% I might see probably wasn't worth it. I mean geez, you probably lose that percentage on an a fragmented hard drive.
