I'm having this weird problem with Vista on my laptop that I've never had before on any version of Windows. For some reason, whenever I open up a program, the CPU usage of explorer.exe shoots up to 100% for about 2-5 minutes, rendering me unable to type or use my mouse effectively for the duration.

What's weird is that the usage goes up for explorer.exe and not the program I opened, and it happens after the program finishes loading. This just started happening to me suddenly. I didn't make any hardware or software changes, it was out of the blue. Anyone have any ideas as to what it might be or had a similar thing happen to them?

Try creating a new Admin profile and see if the CPU usage is still getting hogged up
