    Hey everyone,
Ive been using vista ultimate for a couple weeks and the things I thought would clean them selves up by now haven't.. My list-

Utorrent- half the time I go to run it windows says its already running and not responding. Yet... nothing in the the task bar and no icon. Also crashes a lot when I do get lucky

Bearshare pro- not too bad. I get the message that it is not responding once and a while and will have to exit and restart.

Limewire- Won't connect to the internet at all.

FireFox- No matter how many times I click the shortcut it sometimes wont even load, making me have to restart the computer (not a short thing in Vista)

    AIM- Frequently crashes, doesn't respond.

Vista itself sometimes wont even run correctly. Freezing to the point where I have to hold down the power button

My specs shouldn't have anything to do with it. 2GB mem 1.86GHz processor and plenty of room left on the HD

I was hoping I wouldn't have to make a topic on this but its getting ridicules. I was wondering if anyone else has problems with similar or the same programs

    Thanks

Is your 1.86ghz processor dual core? If it's a single core, it'd be just a hunch but I would think your processor might be struggling to cope, Vista is very resource hungry. If you run the task manager etc and check the cpu/ram loads when nothing is running what do you see?

I had a similar problem when I installed it on my T60. Turns out it was a bad stick of Mushkin memory I installed. They replaced it and the problems continued. I removed it and the problems went away. I purchased a 2GB stick of Patriot memory and the problems have not come back. :)

Vista is not only CPU intensive it's more memory intensive as apps are dumped into memory at startup. I installed Vista Ultimate and now have 3GB of Ram. After Vista loads everything into memory at startup i'm left with approximately 650MB which is considered free.

you do know that bearshare and limewire is riddled with viruses which could easily explain most of your problems and what version of Utorrent do you use? i myself use the 1.7 version and i have not had any problems with it at all. but if sasanac and me understand your post correctly and you have a single core 1.86GHz processor then that could also cause your problems

Get rid of AIM and especially Bearshare pro. These two are mostly likely the problem.

I agree with INCSlayer. While Vista does have its share of problems, each of the programs you mentioned work fine. Based on the software you pointed out as malfunctioning, I'd say you have an infection. A majority of the users on this board who use Vista also use Firefox. And I'm fairly certain that it runs fine. Run a virus scan, update your definitions first. I'd also try CCleaner to clean up IE and FF temp files that could be storing spyware.

It really sounds like the computer just needs a tune-up. P2P sharing will do that ;)

Reinstall Vista, install Firefox, and leave out the rest of the stuff.

Ive run all these programs 4 weeks ago on XP and run perfectly... telling me to just get rid of them or reformat is ridicules. Im sure others here have not seen all these problems, and that there may be a solution. I also scan a lot with zone alarm and nothing too exciting gets found. And since when did limewire have virus's? I run it on 3 pc's for years and never a problem

I don't know what Limewire you are using but the gnutella network, which limewire and alot of other P2P software connect to is flooded with alot of very nasty viruses right now. If you notice whatever you search for now returns a multitude of nonsense files which are far to small for them to be anything other than viruses this is why they have implemented the junk filter into the program to try to filter out some of these files. If limewire won't connect check your firewall(zonealarm) settings and make sure limewire isn't being blocked.

As for firefox it works perfectly in vista I have never had 1 issue with it Utorrent as well. I suspect that your problems can be fixed by just re-installing vista something is clearly wrong on your computer. All of the issues you have reported aren't issues which leads me to believe that like others have said there is probably something nasty running on your computer that you aren't aware of. Just because it worked 4 weeks ago on XP doesn't mean that you couldn't have gotten a malware or some other infection last week in vista.

My question to you is did vista do the freezing thing when you first installed it or did it start after you installed the P2P software?

Well the past two days vista hasn't locked up at all. Programs (like bearshare, aim and firefox) continue to crash and yes it has done this from the beginning
